In another thread about mounting options, I cited my less than satisfactory experiences with the 3M/Scotch "cold" pressure mounting process even after following the directions to the letter. I note that Elco offers mounting options. A couple of related questions:
1. Do you do the mounting also or just sell the materials?
2. If Elco does the mounting, what does that do to the cost of shipping for poster size prints? The possibility of damage during shipping scares me.
3. What, if any, customer feedback have you had about whether your mounting system will hold up in summertime sea-side (humidity) conditions? As I mentioned in the other thread, I don't run my AC in my house if I can avoid it due to the exorbitant cost of electricity.
3. Do you see any issue with my cutting your mounted posters if, for example, I ordered 40x30 posters which contain multiple pictures (merged photoshop layers at 254 DPI) (notwithstanding my making a cutting mistake)?

James here are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes, we mount here on 1/8 styrene, 3/16 Foamcore, 3/16 Gator and 1/2" Foamcore.
2. Shipping flat posters does making the shipping jump, in general to ship flat 20x30s start around $25 for UPS Ground, 24x30s are around $35 for Ground and 24x36 and 30x40s run in the mid $50s. We do package the box pretty good as well as we make sure they are insured to cover for any damage in transit.
3. As for mounting options for high humidity area, I would recommend either the styrene or gator, as both are not affected by the humidity and temp changes the way foamcore are. Foam core will bow over time, even with good humidity/temp control.
4. While we can trim multiple images on a larger image, we do charge a minimum of $5 to trim for up to 4 cuts, go over that # of cuts we charge another $5 for up to 4 more cuts.

Devin: Thanks for your responses. It's certainly understandable that the shipping would be more expensive and, as a result, involve more cost. With that in mind, would it be possible to order posters via the "Internet Special", have you mount them but allow me to physically pick them up at your lab? From time to time I have business in New Jersey and could easily swing by your lab to pick them up. I would really like to do this since your work is very professional and I feel confident that your mounts would stand up to the test of time much better than anything I could do here at home.
